Community College of Denver currently offers two Associate of Applied Science degrees in accounting.
Accounting
This Associate of Applied Science in accounting focuses on preparing you for a career in the field of accounting. By working closely with local industry leaders, the coursework focuses on providing you with technical skills that businesses require for entry-level job candidates. Our graduates start their careers as accounting technicians, bookkeepers, tax preparers and clerks in processing accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. Although the program is designed to put you to work immediately after graduation, the degree also prepares you for advanced studies in the field at the university level. Credits will transfer on a course-by-course basis and will vary by institution.

Transfer degree in Accounting
This unique agreement between CCD, Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) and University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) allows students to seamlessly transfer all 61 credits towards their Bachelor’s degree in accounting. The coursework is designed to provide you with technical accounting skills as well as theory-based knowledge that will be built upon at the university level. Upon completion of this AAS degree, students will enter their university of choice as a junior and have only two years of courses to complete in order to receive their Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from either MSU Denver or CU Denver.

Bookkeeping/Payroll
The bookkeeping/payroll certificate prepares you for full-charge bookkeeping activities, including journal and ledger entries, accounts payable and receivable processing, payroll, and financial statement preparation. The certificate provides a strong foundation in accounting with emphasis on manual and computerized accounting systems and is well suited for individuals currently employed looking to advance your career or those looking to enter the field of accounting as a new profession. The certificate is fully transferable to the Associate of Applied Science in accounting.

Tax Preparation
The tax preparation certificate prepares you for a career in individual income tax preparation. You will learn about basic accounting and tax regulations and how to use tax software to prepare and file tax returns. You will also obtain practical experience through participating in the Tax Help Colorado program, preparing actual income tax returns for low-income families in the metro-Denver area. The certificate provides you with the skills necessary to advance in your current career or provide a solid foundation in income tax preparation for those looking to enter the field of accounting. The certificate is fully transferable to the Associate of Applied Science in accounting.
