Industrial Design
Industrial design is a dynamic and interdisciplinary field that blends creativity, engineering, and user-centered problem-solving to shape the world around us. In this two-year program, you will develop foundational skills in product design, prototyping, and materials exploration while preparing to transfer to Metro State University Denver to complete a bachelor’s degree and open doors to careers in product design, rapid prototyping, furniture and exhibit design, digital fabrication, and manufacturing innovation. The field is projected to grow by 17% through 2030 in the State of Colorado, offering a range of opportunities in emerging industries.
Transfer Pathway & Inter-Institutional Opportunities
The Community College of Denver (CCD) and Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) have developed a seamless transfer pathway from the A.A. in Industrial Design to a B.S. in Industrial Design. Students can complete their A.A. degree in two years at CCD by following the prescribed degree plan. Upon transfer, students may complete their B.S. degree in two additional years, depending on their course load and specialization.
As part of this pathway, students will take select industrial design courses at MSU Denver while still enrolled at CCD through an inter-institutional agreement. Courses such as Industrial Design: Materials and Fabrication I and II, and Design Drawing Techniques will be required for students pursuing this pathway.
Students interested in this program are strongly encouraged to follow the recommended degree pathway and meet regularly with CCD and MSU Denver department chairs and advisors to ensure a smooth transition. CCD and MSU Denver offer advising events each semester to discuss program expectations and inter-institutional coursework.
Inter-Institutional Planning
Students must apply early to take their inter-institutional courses. See this link for more information: https://www.ccd.edu/docs/inter-institutional-application. Students must take the below classes each semester at MSUD.
First semester:
-
IND 1000 - Introduction to Industrial Design Credits: 1
Second semester:
-
IND 1470- Design Drawing Techniques Credits: 3
Third semester:
-
IND 3050- Advanced Sketching Credits: 3
Forth semester:
-
IND 2100 - Digital Composition Credits: 3
Upon graduation, students must meet MSU Denver’s application requirements for the industrial design program.
Program Highlights
-
CCD has an articulation agreement with MSU Denver, ensuring a seamless transfer to the B.S. in Industrial Design program.
-
Continue on to a four-year degree and prepare for careers in product design, digital fabrication, furniture/exhibit design, and manufacturing innovation.
