STE 1000 | Fundamentals of Surgical Technology

STE 1001 | Surgical Technology Skills Lab

Lab Credit: 4

Provides the opportunity to learn and practice basic surgical technology skills.

Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Surgical Technology program
Corequisite: STE 1000 and STE 1010

STE 1003 | Introduction to Surgical Technology Lab

Lab Credit: 4

Introduces hands-on skills in a mock operating room environment for the preoperative phase of surgical technology that includes scrubbing, gowning and gloving, assisting team members, creating and organizing a sterile field, setting up instrumentation on the mayo stand, surgical case management, operative routines, patient transport, patient positioning, prepping, and draping, as well as learning procedures for counting instruments, sponges, needles, sharps, and other items on the sterile field.

STE 1005 | Pharmacology for the Surgical Technologist

Lecture Credit: 2

Covers basic surgical pharmacology including the metric system, pharmacology theory, surgical drugs, and aspects of anesthesia

Prerequisite: STE 1000, STE 1001, and STE 1010 with a grade of C or better
Corequisite: STE 1015 and STE 1081

STE 1010 | Surgical Procedures I

Lecture Credit: 3

Reviews general, gynecological, and urological surgical procedures. Includes a review of the equipment and supplies utilized during the pre-operative, intraoperative and post-operative phases of these procedures.

STE 1015 | Surgical Procedures II

Lecture Credit: 3

Reviews plastic, otorhinolaryngocological, ophthalmologic, and orthopedis surgical procedures. Includes a review of the equipment and supplies utilized during the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative phases of these procedures.

STE 1020 | Surgical Procedures III

Lecture Credit: 3

Reviews cardiac, peripheral vascular, and neurologic surgical procedures. Includes a review of the instruments, equipment, and supplies utilized during the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases of these procedures.

Prerequisite: STE 1010 and STE 1015 with a grade of C or better

STE 1075 | Special Topics

Provides students with a vehicle to pursue in depth exploration of a special topic of interest.

Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Surgical Technology Program

STE 1081 | Surgical Internship I

Internship Credit: 4

Allows students to integrate theoretical concepts in a clinical surgical setting.

Prerequisite: STE 1000, STE 1001, and STE 1010 with a grade of C or better

STE 1082 | Internship II

Lecture Credit: 4

Allows students to integrate advanced theoretical concepts in a clinical surgical setting.

Prerequisite: STE 1000, STE 1001, STE 1005, STE 1010, STE 1015, STE 1020, and STE 1081 with a grade of C or better

STE 1083 | Internship III

Lecture Credit: 6

Allows students to integrate advanced theoretical concepts in a clinical surgical setting.

STE 2068 | Surgical Technology Seminar

Lecture Credit: 2

Allows Surgical Technology students to learn techniques helpful in passing the required national certification exam for surgical technology from the Association for Surgical Technologists.

Prerequisite: STE 1000, STE 1001, STE 1005, STE 1010, STE 1015, STE 1020, STE 1081, and STE 1082 with a grade of C or better

STE 2069 | CST Exam Review Course

Lecture Credit: 2

Prepares students for the National Certification Exam administered by The National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) by introducing test taking skills and strategies for success. Students will review major concepts in the surgical technology program in preparation for the CST examination.

STE 2081 | Surgical Technology Clinical Internship I

Internship Credit: 4

Provides clinical hands-on experience for student to perform surgical technology duties in the first-scrub, second-scrub, and observation role during any given surgical procedure with proficiency and increased complexity while progressing towards entry-level graduate achievement. Clinical experience will be documented by procedure, date and student role while verifying case counts throughout the surgical rotation as defined by accreditation standards through a total of 120 cases. This is the first of three surgical technology clinical internships.

STE 2082 | Surgical Technology Clinical Internship II
