SPA 1001 | Conversational Spanish I

Offers beginning students the skills necessary to understand and speak Spanish. The material includes basic vocabulary, grammar, and expressions that are used in daily situations and in travel.

SPA 1002 | Conversational Spanish II

Lecture Credit: 3

Offers students the skills necessary to understand and speak Spanish. The material continues to cover basic conversations patterns, expressions, and grammar.

Prerequisite: SPA 1001 with a grade of C or better

SPA 1011 | Spanish Language I

Lecture Credit: 5

Develops students’ interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communicative abilities in the language. Integrates these skills in the cultural contexts in which the language is used. Offers a foundation in the analysis of culture.

SPA 1012 | Spanish Language II

Lecture Credit: 5

Expands students’ interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communicative abilities in the language across the disciplines. Integrates these skills with the study of the cultures in which the language is used. Offers a foundation in the analysis of culture and develops intercultural communicative strategies.

Prerequisite: SPA 1011 with a grade of C or better

SPA 1014 | Fast Track Spanish I and II

Lecture Credit: 5

Designed to bridge beginning SPA courses with intermediate SPA courses. It is designed for students who have studied two years of the target language in high school and possess linguistic and cultural knowledge that true beginners do not, but are not ready yet to move to the intermediate level because they need an in-depth review of essential structures.

Note: This course is for students who have some basic Spanish skills (either from previous study or personal experience) and who have not taken SPA 1011. If a student is currently enrolled in SPA 1011, they must enroll in SPA 1012 for the next level of study.

SPA 1015 | Spanish for the Professional I

Lecture Credit: 3

Introduces students to a working knowledge of the target language, cultural behaviors and values useful in various professional fields such as health care, law enforcement, bilingual education, business, and others.

SPA 1075 | Special Topics

Provides students with a vehicle to pursue in depth exploration of special topics of interest.

SPA 2001 | Conversational Spanish III

Provides students with the skills necessary continue to their study of understanding and speaking Spanish. The material includes intermediate level vocabulary, grammar, and expressions.

Prerequisite: SPA 1002 with a grade of C or better

SPA 2002 | Conversational Spanish IV

Lecture Credit: 3

Provides students the skills necessary to continue their study of understanding and speaking Spanish. The material will continue to cover intermediate level conversational patterns, expressions, and grammar.

Prerequisite: SPA 2001 with a grade of C or better

SPA 2011 | Spanish Language III: GT-AH4

Lecture Credit: 3

Continues Spanish Language I and II in the development of increased functional proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing the Spanish language. This course is one of the Statewide Guaranteed Transfer courses. GT-AH4

SPA 2061 | Spanish Language for Heritage and Intermediate-Mid Speakers

Focuses on developing Spanish language skills necessary for communication in social and professional settings. Coursework is curated for speakers who learned Spanish in an informal, non-academic setting and for intermediate-mid speakers. This course emphasizes grammar, vocabulary expansion, reading and writing skills, global linguistic variations, and topics related to Hispanic communities in the United States and the Spanish-speaking world.

SPA 2062 | Writing for Heritage and Intermediate-Mid Spanish Speakers

Emphasizes the writing skills necessary for communication in professional and academic settings, focusing on topics related to Hispanic communities in the United States and the Spanish-speaking world.
